GAO: Record linkage and privacy: issues for new federal research/statistical info
According to the General Accounting Office (GAO), report record linkage is a computer-based process that combines multiple sources of existing data. Federally sponsored linkage projects may inform policy debates, track program outcomes, help local government or business planning or contribute knowledge that might benefit millions of people. This research will be conducted under federal auspices (or with federal funding) and produce new research or statistical information.
