Account Establishment
When we receive notice of an award from a sponsor,
a Research Foundation account will be established according
to the awarded budget. It is our intent to minimize
the restrictions on expenditures between budget categories
and to allow flexibility consistent with sponsor policy;
if you would like to change the established budget you
will need to contact Sponsored Funds. Once an account
is established Sponsored Funds will send an award letter
that identifies the account number and general information
on the administration of the account through the Research
Foundation along with the Account Information Abstract
which summarizes the budget and provides special notices
on terms and conditions. Additional abstracts will be
generated if there are any changes to the account
Establishment of account without account sponsor approval
When it is necessary to establish a sponsored project
account prior to the receipt of an award notice from
a sponsor, the project director may request that an
account be "backstopped." When an account
is backstopped the department or school assumes responsibility
for funds expended if an award is not made. Research
Development Services staff will work with project directors
to determine the feasibility of backstopping. All backstop
requests require the endorsement and commitment from
the department and Deans Office.
Budget changes
Unless restricted by sponsor, Research Foundation
or university policies, you will have flexibility to
expend program funds in the manner consistent with achieving
the projects' objectives. If there are questions contact
Sponsored Funds immediately. We will work with you and
the sponsor on any budget changes. All formal budget
changes need to go through this office for review and
endorsement prior to submission to the sponsor.
No cost extensions
You will receive notification of project termination
within 90 days of the scheduled termination date. If
an extension is required or desired contact Sponsored
Funds for assistance. No cost extensions will be granted
in accordance with sponsor policy. Any requested changes
to your award must go through this office prior to submission
to the sponsor.
