AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) authorizes over $16 billion in new research funds to various federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. This presents Binghamton University faculty with some unprecedented opportunities for support of their research endeavors.
The Act mandates that federal agencies obligate all ARRA funds by September 30, 2010. In order to meet this directive, most federal agencies are reviewing proposals that were recently reviewed and received high scores, but were not funded. To be awarded, these proposals must show significant advances can be made in their research area within two years. We strongly encourage university researchers to contact their program officers to discuss their recently reviewed proposals and see if they fall within the agency ARRA funding guidelines. Some agencies are releasing funding opportunities specifically addressing the ARRA funds.
Implementation of the Act is quickly evolving. Please refer to this website often for updates. Sponsored Programs will post information as it becomes available from the agencies. We encourage you to contact your assigned Grant and Contract Administrator in Sponsored Programs if you have any questions relating to the ARRA or the funding opportunities.
