Helpful Information

The information and rates listed below are to help you in preparing your research proposals . Please contact your assigned Grant and Contract Administrator with any questions you may have.

Facilities & Administrative (F&A) Cost Rates

The total cost of a sponsored program consists of both direct and indirect costs.
Direct costs are specifically and clearly identifiable to the project, i.e. salaries and wages for project personnel, associated fringe benefits, equipment, supplies, etc.

Facilities and administrative costs (sometimes referred to as indirect costs) are costs incurred in support of sponsored programs, but not identifiable with any single project, i.e. sponsored program and general administration costs such as payroll and purchasing, general institutional support services such as building maintenance, libraries, etc.  These rates are in accordance with Binghamton University's Rate Agreement negotiated with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The date of the agreement is September 26, 2007.
