Gerald Sonnenfeld was appointed vice president in 2003. His research focuses on the regulation of the immune system by the neuro-endocrine system and how stress affects reactions. Sonnenfeld, a native New Yorker, earned his bachelor’s degree from City College of New York and his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds two U.S. patents and one from Canada. |

As associate vice president, Stephen Gilje supports the vice president for research across all divisional initiatives, and is charged with direct oversight of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Technology Transfer and Innovation Partnerships, the Office of Economic Development and the Office of Research Compliance. He also acts as the Research Foundation’s campus operations manager. |

Mary Lou Sollis provides administrative support to the vice president for research. She is the Division of Research Oracle HR master and coordinates the University’s annual Advocacy Day in Albany. |

Marie Giordano is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Vice President for Research. She schedules appointments and screens telephone calls for the vice president. She manages travel reimbursement and purchasing for the office and maintains payments to suppliers. Giordano is the back-up for the Oracle HR master and assists with the coordination of the University's annual Advocacy Day. |
