U.S. Representative Maurice D. Hinchey (D-NY) toured Binghamton University on Monday, February 27, and received an update on the University’s Center for Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging.  Hinchey has been instrumental in garnering funding for the Center from federal government agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Department of Defense.

These sponsoring agencies are keenly interested in new microelectronic technologies that are lightweight and low-cost for future applications in homeland and national security and space exploration. Hinchey met with a team of Binghamton faculty and students, working in microelectronics research, and toured their laboratories. He then met with President DeFleur to discuss research and other issues in higher education.
