Abstract: Studies highlight the lack of women in the field of cyber security. For instance, women are marginalized in the workplace causing a gender gap to exist (Kshetri 2022). My study is relevant as the data collected will help establish if access to community guidance in relation to females in computing is helpful and encouraging. For instance, this study is needed to measure if females feel more comfortable in the field if they are surrounded by supporters and guidance. While we know the causes for the gender gap in cyber security, as well as the introduction of cybersecurity programs for adolescents, my new research will be deep diving into the focus of stereotypes and the implications on young females majoring in computer-related fields at FSC. The proportion of women in the field of cybersecurity is significantly less than their male counterparts, hence a gender gap is created (Kshetri 2022). There are numerous challenges in pursuing a career in cybersecurity. Therefore, the role of mentorship in the field is needed as the differences between males and females in the field are very present and should not be underestimated (Pinchot 2020). A study was conducted to find if there's a correlation between allowing cybersecurity programs for high-school female students, and the long-term effects. Moreover, measuring if these classes encourage girls to pursue a career in the tech field in the future (Shan 2022). My research question is focused on locating the stereotypes present and how they can cause a connotation around computer-related majors for young adolescent females.
