Abstract: Introduction: The U.S. military offers therapeutic programs to support veterans’ well-being post-service. Recreational therapy has proven effective in improving physical health, mental well-being, and social engagement. Programs like Heroes on the Hudson and the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic show benefits such as enhanced mobility, reduced PTSD symptoms, and increased social integration. While research focuses on quantitative success metrics, limited attention is given to recreational staff perceptions of its long-term impact on veterans’ quality of life (QoL). Objective: This study examines recreational staff perceptions at the Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH) regarding the impact of recreational activities on veterans’ QoL across physical, emotional, and social domains. Their insights will provide a deeper understanding of recreational therapy’s role in veteran healthcare. Methods: A quantitative online survey via Qualtrics will be conducted among LISVH recreational staff with at least one year of experience. Likert-scale questions will assess physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, and environmental factors. Descriptive statistics will be used for analysis. Results & Conclusion: The study found a general increase in veterans' quality of life, particularly in physical health, emotional well-being, and social engagement. Staff emphasized that consistent engagement in recreational activities is crucial for sustaining these improvements and enhancing veterans' overall well-being.
