Abstract: Industrial engineering has traditionally applied to manufacturing to streamline processes and reduce excess costs, but it can potentially expand into other fields, specifically healthcare. Industrial engineering methodologies transform healthcare by improving efficiency, reducing employee burnout, and improving patient outcomes. This research investigates how industrial engineering principles—such as cost management, operational workflow improvements, capacity planning, and digital engagement—can address key challenges in healthcare. This analysis synthesizes findings from recent reports and case studies from diverse healthcare settings featured in Becker's Hospital Review to illustrate measurable improvements, including decreased patient length of stay, lower clinician burnout rates, and notable financial savings. Integrating innovative AI-driven documentation and centralized staffing management systems demonstrates industrial engineering's adaptability to healthcare environments. Applying these methodologies throughout the healthcare space could help organizations optimize resources, improve care quality, and sustainably manage rising healthcare demands.
