Abstract: Verbal fluency is commonly used in clinical settings to assess how well someone can retrieve words from memory. There are two types of verbal fluency: semantic fluency and phonemic fluency. Both types of fluency are linked to different cognitive processes and brain areas, with semantic fluency relying more on executive functions. This skill is especially important for understanding how aging impacts the brain and how conditions like Alzheimer’s disease develop. This poster reviews studies on verbal fluency and describes the factors that can influence verbal fluency. Verbal fluency tests are valuable tools for understanding cognitive health. They provide insight into how cognitive abilities change over time and reveal how factors like age, education, and task design influence verbal memory and word retrieval. This understanding is crucial for assessing and diagnosing cognitive health, especially in older populations or those with conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
