Abstract: Dietary patterns shape an individual’s health in both a profound and complex fashion. This study examines dietary patterns–those that restrict or eliminate macronutrients, calories, or food groups–and their associations with gastrointestinal and mental health. Data was collected through a Google Forms survey, assessing dietary behaviors, inflammation, gut health, and mental health. The survey was distributed via social media and messaging platforms. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson Correlation Analysis in SPSS version 28.0. Restrictive dietary patterns were positively associated with gastrointestinal symptoms (p<0.01) and emotional dysregulation (p<0.01). In contrast, adherence to a Mediterranean diet was negatively associated with gastrointestinal symptoms (p<0.01) and depressive feelings (p<0.01) . This study establishes a clear link between restrictive dietary patterns and increased gastrointestinal discomfort, which may lead to emotional dysregulation. These findings suggest gut and mental health are interconnected, emphasizing the importance of dietary diversity.
