Abstract: The New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP), modeled after the National Science Foundation’s Master Teacher framework, strives to improve the state’s quality of education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by focusing on teacher excellence. This study aims to analyze the NYSMTP to better understand the benefits and identify room for improvement within the program. A mixed-methods study was employed, using qualitative interviews with participants of the program and optional student surveys to collect quantitative data. The findings suggest that the NYSMTP allows participating teachers to connect with a network of passionate educators to form a productive, inspiring, and engaging community, but acknowledges limitations stemming from the school curriculum and the program's structure. The effects of this research should provide guidelines on improved systems, increased program quality, and overall maximized benefits for educators and students involved.
