Abstract: Stuttering is a common speech disorder characterized by involuntary disruptions in the forward flow of speech. It specifically includes repeating sounds during speech, prolonged sounds, or silent pauses. This type of disorder can lead to many social, emotional, and communicative challenges. These challenges commonly lead to anxiety about speaking or depression. A big cause of this is the perceptions and treatments of others who do not stutter. People who stutter suffer differently as a result of their disorder, and one factor that contributes to this is their gender. This study serves as an initial investigation of whether there is a difference in the perception of stuttering between men and women. To investigate this, a survey was conducted to test people's perception of those who stutter through a series of questions that read as statements and respondents rate deach item. The survey was filled out by Binghamton University students.
