Abstract: Higher education institutions are vital for implementing the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to reduce inequality, improve health and education, and fight against climate change, yet environmental targets often lag. This project presents a case study on Binghamton University to examine the tension between its stated sustainability commitments and its physical expansion. Driven by growing student enrollment, the university has increased construction and cleared land, potentially undermining its own green initiatives. By analyzing self-reported university data on waste management, greenhouse gas emissions, admissions, and housing capacity alongside public statements, this research investigates the net negative impacts of ongoing construction on both the student body and campus sustainability efforts. Ultimately, the project serves as a communication tool to bridge the gap between students and faculty, addressing student concerns and fostering dialogue regarding the university's developmental practices.
