Abstract: This thesis looks at the effectiveness of reentry programs in Broome County, New York. It analyzes their impact on reducing recidivism and supporting previously incarcerated individuals in their transition back into society. Through qualitative interviews with reentry program participants, administrators, and individuals affected by the criminal justice system, this study explores reintegration challenges, including socio-economic barriers, employment opportunities, and access to mental health services. Statistical data on recidivism rates and crime trends in Broome County provide a broader context for evaluating program success. The research focuses on three key reentry programs: Volunteers of America’s Community Justice and Reentry Program, the New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Reentry Services, and Walk With Me (Family Enrichment Network). By examining the effectiveness and limitations of these programs, this thesis aims to contribute to policy discussions on improving rehabilitation efforts and reducing cycles of incarceration in Broome County.
